Target Audience
Anfeald’s confined space entry course, CON 301, is for learners involved with entry into permit-required confined spaces. Successful completion of this course helps learners complete safe and compliant entry operations for most industries including construction, general industry, oil and gas, and related.
Summary
This course provides entrants, attendants, and entry supervisors with the understanding, knowledge, and skills so they can safely participate in permit-required confined space entry operations. This is classroom training with hands-on practice and skill evaluation using the client’s equipment and an out-of-service confined space isolated from all hazardous energy and safe to enter. Learners must demonstrate proficiency in setting up and using this equipment.
This course touches on basic non-entry rescue concepts; however, employers must provide rescue training appropriate for the hazards and in compliance with safety and health regulations. Refer to Anfeald’s Non-Entry Confined Spaces Rescue Course, CON 901, for details.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, learners will:
- List common confined space hazards and appropriate corrective actions and procedures to address them
- Demonstrate knowledge of the three functional confined space entry roles (entrant, attendant, supervisor) and list the core responsibilities of each role
- Demonstrate how to properly set up and use their organization’s confined space entry equipment
- Demonstrate how to properly set up and use ventilation to control atmospheric hazards
- Demonstrate the proper use of a portable gas detector with emphasis on interpreting gas-detector readings
- Explain the signs and symptoms of entrant overexposure to common chemical classes
- Demonstrate how to complete an entry permit, complete a pre-entry briefing, use and maintain a permit during entry, cancel a permit, and retain a permit
- Recognize when an emergency occurs and demonstrate initial response actions

Facility, classroom, and equipment needs:
- Comfortable seating, table space, and writing materials for each learner

- Out of service confined space that is isolated from all hazardous energy, locked, tagged, and safe to enter*
- Fully functional entry equipment appropriate for the entry type, in good repair*
- Positive-pressure ventilation equipment with appropriate ducting*
