Target Audience
Anfeald’s Authorized Employee Hazardous Energy Control, Detailed (Lockout-Tagout) course, LOT 301, is for employees who must lock and tag equipment in preparation for repair, maintenance, inspection, cleaning, and who must generate and review equipment specific hazardous energy control procedures.
Summary
This course provides learners with specific information on lockout-tagout concepts and procedures based on regulatory requirements and best practices. It includes a review of client’s lockout-tagout procedures when available – Clients should provide representative equipment-specific lockout-tagout procedures for class, so the instructor can orient learners to client’s procedures. It also includes knowledge and practice creating and reviewing equipment-specific hazardous energy control procedures.
It covers all energy sources, including electrical. It meets OSHA electrical safety regulations for locking and tagging electrical circuits under the electrical safety regulations, and it partially meets NFPA 70E training requirements for establishing an electrically safe working condition. However, it Is not an electrical safety course – learners must also receive electrical safety training covering both OSHA/OSH regulations and NFPA 70E if they test for zero energy state for lockout-tagout, troubleshoot equipment while energized, or otherwise work as qualified persons defined by electrical safety regulations.
This course meets federal OSHA and state OSH general industry control of hazardous energy regulations, including CAL OSHA, but it is also for construction industry personnel who must complete lockout-tagouts with respect to electrical circuits and other hazardous energy sources at facilities under construction or remodel.
For employers with simple lockout-tagout scenarios and needs, and for learners who do not need to know how to write and review hazardous energy control procedures, consider LOT 303, the 2.5-hour version of this course.

By the end of this course, successful learners will:
- Explain authorized and affected employee responsibilities
- Explain the purpose and use of hazardous energy control procedures
- Describe hazardous energy sources and their magnitudes,
- Explain energy isolation, control, and verification means and methods
- Explain group lockout-tagout, shift and personnel change, and tagout-only (tags+) procedures
- Explain procedures and requirements for removal of another authorized employee’s locks and tags
- Explain the relationship between lockout-tagout and creation of an electrically safe working condition under NFPA 70E
- Review client’s equipment-specific hazardous energy control procedures and policies
- Demonstrate how to generate and review equipment-specific hazardous energy control procedures
- Demonstrate an actual lockout-tagout on equipment when available or complete a written test when not available
Includes associated regulatory requirements and best practices and a review of an example of client’s hazardous energy control procedures, when provided.

- Comfortable seating, table space, and writing materials for each learne
- Sufficient space considering the anticipated headcount
- Display screen with HDMI input or screen and projector (let us know in advance if we need to bring a projector and screen)
- Copies of client’s equipment specific written hazardous energy control procedures
- Sufficient locks, tags, and energy isolating devices
- Access to selected equipment in good condition, with all guards, so learners can deenergize, lock, tag and verify subject to their ability to do so safely
