Target Audience
Anfeald’s Machine Guarding Principles and their Practical Application course, MAC 700, is for safety and health professionals and others who manage safety programs, or supervise personnel, or work on machines to maintain, repair, modify, troubleshoot, remove guards, install guards, design guards, and perform similar functions.
Summary
Machine guarding regulations do not require training; however, machine-related injuries include caught in, struck by, and similar injury mechanisms regularly cause a variety of issues that range from lacerations, crushing, fractures, to amputations, and in extreme cases, death. This course helps learners understand how to recognize machine guarding hazards, control them, and reliably implement and maintain a machine guarding program at their facility. It is also designed to help learners manage problems associated with systemic and behavioral machine-guarding compliance problems and their associated injuries.
The course length will vary based on the participating learners needs, prior knowledge, and equipment complexity.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, learners will:
- List and define the three broad categories of machine parts that require guards
- List and define points-of-operation and common hazardous motions
- List guard and device types, how they protect employees, and their imitations
- Explain how to overcome the systemic issues that allow machine-guarding hazards and related injuries to persist in the workplace
- Explain how to overcome negative employee behaviors related to machine guard violations
- Explain the relationship between machine-guarding and lockout-tagout
- Complete a machine-guarding hazard assessment on one or more machines in the facility, and discuss findings and corrective actions with the class and the instructor
