Target Audience
Anfeald’s Respiratory Protection for Air-Purifying Respirators Package course, RES 301 P, is for personnel who wear loose-fitting filtering facepieces, tight-fitting air-purifying respirators (APR), or tight-fitting powered air-purifying respirators (PAPR) and need training, medical clearance, and a quantitative respirator fit test in a single session.
Summary
This course helps learners understand how to don, use, doff, clean, sanitize, and store all APR types under voluntary or mandatory non-IDLH conditions. This course includes a brief overview of OSHA’s respiratory protection standard, a brief review of the respiratory system anatomy and physiology, medical surveillance, types of air contaminants, occupational exposure limits, respirator cartridges, and respirator limitations, and related content. Instructors adjust content for the respirator type(s) in use.
Each participating learner will receive the course, a review of the OSHA Respirator Medical Evaluation Questionnaire by a qualified medical provider, and a quantitative respirator fit test. Learners should bring their respirators to class. Learners must bring their respirator(s) to class for practice and fit tests. If a learner does not bring a respirator to class, we can fit-test using one of the following half-face surrogate masks (3 M 6000 Series, North Advantage, Scott XCEL), though this is not ideal.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, learners will:
- Demonstrate how to inspect, don, complete user seal checks, doff, maintain, and store air-purifying respirators
- Explain when to change out respirator cartridges
- Identify emergencies and what to do if they occur
- Overview of OSHA’s respiratory protection standard, a brief review of the respiratory system anatomy and physiology, medical surveillance, types of air contaminants, occupational exposure limits, respirator cartridges, and respirator limitations.
Learners will also receive:
- OSHA-compliant medical clearance*
- Quantitative respirator fit test*
*Most people successfully meet requirements; however, Anfeald cannot guarantee successful medical clearances or fit tests due to personal variations.

Facility, Classroom, and Other Needs
Facility, classroom, and equipment needs:
- Comfortable seating, table space, and writing materials for each learner
- Sufficient space considering the anticipated headcount
- Display screen with HDMI input or screen and projector (let us know in advance if we need to bring a projector and screen)
- Learners should bring their respirators to class to complete fit tests
